Kintyre & Kintyre Yarn
Kintyre is renowned for its music, whisky, golf courses, welcoming community, and stunning scenery. Visitors enjoy peaceful landscapes, outdoor activities, an excellent cinema, lots of ceilidhs, and a mild climate thanks to its location south of Glasgow and Kintyre being bathed in the Gulf Stream.
Farming is central to the area, with cows and sheep thriving on the land; indeed the land is not so well suited to other types of farming. Access routes include beautiful scenic drives, several ferry options, short flights from Glasgow, and even a short boat trip from Northern Ireland.
My personal connections to Kintyre are strong, with family ties to farming and veterinary work. The community is supportive and friendly, making it an ideal place for both living and raising children. The beaches are dog-friendly and rarely crowded.
Through involvement with local sheep farming, it became clear that converting fleece to wool is rarely profitable for farmers. As a knitter I wanted to help change that. I am inspired by the landscape, there’s and i have unleashed a creative drive to produce and naturally dye wool using local resources, celebrating both the beauty and sustainability of Kintyre whilst making a magnificent product.
